Meals for Haiti
Our oldest daughter and I joined other girl scouts and mothers to help pack meals destined specifically this month for Haiti. Each plastic bag holds 6 meals consisting of rice, soy protein, dehydrated vegetables and 20 vitamins & minerals with a powered vegetarian chicken flavoring. This "Feed My Starving Children" packing site in Eagan is one of four sites located in Minnesota and Illinois. Founded in 1987, "FMSC" is a non-profit Christian organization committed to "Feeding God's Starving Children Hungry in Body and Spirit." The assembled volunteers packed 31 boxes containing 6,696 meals in 90 minutes, enough to feed 18 children for one year. Meals are sent to over 60 countries and in 2010 they hope to pack and ship over 100 million meals!

I'm struck by your blog yesterday and today because it graphically points out the differences between countries and their people. How lucky we are, despite the many warts our country has. So good of you to show your daughters the flip side of the coin from our way of life. Makes my heart hurt to think of the kind of lives, both adult and children, that are being led in Haiti and other underdeveloped countries. One reason why UNICEF is our favorite charity. Cheers for the FMSC programs.
Thank you to all involved for your generosity of spirit and time.
une belle cause, bravo aux benevoles
That is a lot of food! So do we get to see a pic of you in a hair net too?
Excellent! «Louis» did not know about this charity. He suspects that this is a much more cost-effective way of helping than donating to the perennially scandal-plagued United Way or even the occasionally scandal-ridden Red Cross.
The girl scouts are doing such good things these days. Thank You so much for pointing this out. The FMSC is no doubt saving lives all over the world.
Un grand bravo to all of you! Bravo to Kate for her comment too.
More food! But this time it's for a good cause! I mean, not that Rotarians aren't a good cause, it's just we wouldn't want Rotarians to get too rotary!
You threatened you were coming but you didn't say when!
What a great post. It's so good to see the actual nitty gritty of what is being done for Haiti. We give our money but this really brings it home. Great people and a great post, Leif. Money is often easy to give to ease our consciences and try and help but to give your time and energy as you and your daughter have done and all the other people in the photo - that's real generosity - sometimes time is the one thing we can't find. Bravo and thanks.
I salute your daughter for taking part in this effort. It is a worthwhile cause.
That's a sweet thing for your daughter to do. Bravo to her and the other Scouts. I think giving your time is often a more generous donation than money.
That's a generous things to do. that's what a family's up for, to share while teaching to share.
Wonderful to have your daughters involved actively with this good charity. And its a nice photo, too.

This is a great cause and so very efficient! It's wonderful so many people are involved. And also, the girl scouts look adorable with their plastic hairnets on :)
