Two trees cut down in their front yard on Turquoise Trail are now a handsomely carved bear and wolf! A beary merry bear indeed!

Let's talk sports!

These Eagan and Eastview high school guys meet weekly to produce their own 30 minutes long sports commentary show, "Offside Sports," in the Eagan Television studio at Thomson Reuters headquarters.

Jenna and Molly work at the Caponi Art Park; it was a beautiful December morning to catch them with one of the many outdoor sculptures.

Ready ringers

These high school guys were cheerfully ringing the red bell for Salvation Army donations in front of Byerlys grocery store. They smiled for my $1 donation.

Set & ready

The Christmas Eve dinner table was prepared and the food was cooking in the kitchen. Our menu included: Swedish meatballs, potatoes, lefse, fruit soup, lingonberries, cooked carrots and cranberry cake with butter sauce for dessert. Grandpa and Grandma Lee joined us from Decorah, Iowa.

Some friends came over on Sunday night to sing Christmas carols. Erica played the piano and our voices blended on old Christmas favorites.

In 1977 at age 13, Erik Saltvold started repairing bikes in his parents' barn in Richfield. Today, he owns 18 bike shops and has 200 employees. "Erik the Bike Man" posed with a 40 pound Surly snow riding bike outside of his shop in Town Centre in Eagan.

A new musical premiere

"A Christmas Carol" will debut as a musical for the first time in the United States at Eagan High School. Over 55 characters aided by 26 technicians and directed by Dennis Swanson will perform this show on December 9, 10, 11, 15, 16 & 17. Scott Lloyd Anderson, a Minneapolis oil painter, stood off Wescott Road overlooking the pond at Barbara Curry Park. His oils and brushes captured the beauty of nature on a glorious November day.

St. Olaf in Eagan

Located 30 minutes south of Eagan in Northfield, St. Olaf College founded its St. Olaf Choir back in 1912. The 100th offering of the St. Olaf Christmas Festival was simulcast on Sunday afternoon at nearly 400 theaters in 45 states while thousands attended the festival on campus. Eagan's Regal 16 Theater welcomed a few hundred Lutherans and others, several wearing Norwegian sweaters. The 2 hour Christmas Festival performed by 5 choirs and full orchestra ended traditionally with "Beautiful Savior."

Freshly cut...

Our family drove out to Stillwater, a city 35 minutes from Eagan, to cut down a fresh Christmas tree. Eating popcorn and drinking hot apple cider inside the tree payment office afterwards adds to the annual tradition.

Silly Willie

This covered wagon sits in front of the Cherokee Restaurant on Nicols Road. They remain closed for repairs following their fire damage recently.

Just three restaurant options dominate the Eagan Promenade shopping area. I prefer Houlihan's and Jake's for lunch but both "BWs" and Jake's have outdoor dining patios. It was summer....

Kitchen cooks

Grandpa Ozz and Grandma Lois prepared a Thanksgiving feast for us. The menu included: turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, marshmallow topped squash, cranberry salad, green bean casserole, stuffing, lingonberry sauce, frosted bread and white wine. Pumpkin pie with real whipped cream topped off our Thanksgiving dinner together.
