The Eagan High School drama department has a long, impressive history of performing plays and musicals as evidenced by their huge wall covered with framed past performance posters. This musical leads the audience through the story of Pippin, loaded with infectious dance numbers and energetic pop-influenced music. The "leading player" portrayed by Javier Ferreira (center stage) and "Pippin" played by Jordan Oxborough (stage far left), stole the show with their outstanding performances. Over 35 other great cast members and a live "pit orchestra" brilliantly supported them under the direction of retired theater teacher, Dennis Swanson.Story-line: He was Pepin, the first born son of Charlemagne, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in the eighth century. He is accorded only the smallest paragraph in history books. In the case of PIPPIN, the authors were looking for a story of a young man's search for significance. The events are described as happening in 780 A.D. "or thereabouts," and the program describes the setting as "The Holy Roman Empire or thereabouts." But Pippin will be seen as a completely recognizable young man of today who is impatient to find his place in the world. Bravo! Encore!

Sounds like an interesting story! Not your usual high school musical fare at least. :)
Eagan's high school must be doing some really good activities with their students. A joyful photo it is! Today's Tribune carries a story of another activity: students listening to and then talking with a Holocaust survivor at the History Center in downtown St. Paul. I used to have survivors come in to talk to my students...very powerful. Getting involved in drama is also a super learning experience.

Re Rotary at Evry - here's what «Louis» wrote about the Excalibur:
The Excalibur car was designed by Brooks Stevens. Obviously it is intended to remind people of the pre-WWII Mercedes race cars. The original Excalibur was built on a Studebaker chassis and powered by a Studebaker Avanti V-8. Stevens tried mightily to save Studebaker. After Studebaker closed, Stevens continued building the Excalibur continued for a time. If «Louis» isn't mistaken, the Excalibur you show has a General Motors V8 engine."
