Second Sunday in Advent

Our church, Gloria Dei Lutheran in St. Paul, was built in the 1950s. We celebrated our centennial last year. The first church building stands further north in St. Paul.

Every week, they add additional Christmas decorations during Advent as we await the celebration of Christmas. Click on the photo to "embiggen."

Nice church. A pulpit like in old Europe, yes?
I had to google to learn that VDMA stands for Verbum Domini Manet in Aeternum and means “The Word of the Lord Endures Forever."
Look at all those Communion cups. How big is your Sunday attendance?

Thanks for visiting the Moravian star on our blog and alerting us to the fact that you have this beautiful church view. Hope to see the inside when all the advent decorations are positioned!

I like the idea of adding more decorations as the Advent season progresses. That should heighten the sense of anticipation.

Today we lit our second Advent candle.

Dina, I think we have 300 - 400 worship during a full service. During Christmas Eve, I guess we'll have over 500 per service? That's a guess.

Mr. Safe Leif - are you sure this is in St. Paul, Minneesota? It looks more like a church you'd find in parts of Europe...very charming, though! I like the way the pulpit is set up high so the pastor is at least 8 feet above criticism!

Now, please try not to snore during the holiday services...if I recall correctly you're in the choir and it wouldn't sound too good and might even drown out the sermon!

And thanks for your concern for my personal welfare although I think you're worried if I don't post a photo for a day or two you won't have anybody to get really "sassy, funny, clever, serious or encouraging" about!

Tack that mycket in your pipe and smoke it. Oui?

Though I'm not religious I still light the advent candles at home for my husband's religion.

«Louis» would like to see this church. It is beautifully done - the design is quite elegant, unlike many churches built at that time.

Nice you have such a good turn-out.
In and around Jerusalem the churches have standing-room only on Christmas Eve. Well, it is because many Israeli Jews come to sample the smells and bells of Midnight Mass.

Lovely church. I like the idea of adding more decorations as Christmas approached. Maybe you can show us a picture taken on Christmas Day so we can see the end result.
