Hello Leif, my name is Nataniel Klug and I am one of GSE Team members that will be in Minnesota next week. I have, in Brazil, a small rental store and we have some new technologies but they are not as fast as in USA. We don´t have a extra-large bandwidth connection so we can send movies in HD to a customer house. I also own an small internet service provider and, in the region I am working, my business is the only with a network capable of 100 Mbps networks between two clients (on the same city) with average/good prices (payable).
I think this is the reason for a big Blockbuster, an icon in movie rental store, to be closing all around the world. In Brazil they still exist but they are smaller than in USA.

Interesting photos that generate many interesting comments. I have not read any article that confirms on-line rental has been taking up brick and mortar market share in the US. This post and its comments give us an indication.
Although I am somewhat sad to see Blockbuster go, I am not surprised. A group that I was in during my MBA program back in the mid-1990's predicted its demise and the demise of all video rental stores unless they re-invented themselves to be much like NetFlix/Hulu/Fancast. I'm truly surprised that the old brick-and-mortar video stores have held out this long.

We see lots of stores closing in the high streets here too.
The closest Blockbuster store to my house has been closed many months ago and I think it was not the only one. Great night shots.
It's the end of an era, our Blockbuster is still open but in not very good 'health'. Many smaller rental store have already closed in the last months.
Time changes, needs do the same! I never used Blockbuster in Denmark, but I guess all are closed now.
Oh, too bad! The turnover of technology making this kind of store obsolete certainly happened fast!!

Hmmm... Looks zackly like the local Blockbuster. They stuck to 'bricks and mortar' too long in a fast-changing market.
They have all closed here.
That's a shame, but the market is changing - we still have one here but am not sure how it's doing.

I miss Blockbuster, our only one closed two years ago.
