This friendly
Hmong family from St. Paul has a 1.5 acre plot off Wescott Road and Lexington Road. The grandparents, granddaughter, grandson and grandson's girlfriend posed among their
lemongrass and
red pepper plants. (The daughter was too camera shy.) They also planted
beans,
watermelons,
cucumbers, onions, long beans and
pumpkins. The grandparents and their daughter left
Laos in 1980 for
Thailand. After 5 years there, they arrived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 1985 and later St. Paul, Minnesota, home to one of the largest Hmong populations in the US. Good luck for
great crops!

belle photo avec un léger dépaysement ;)
Good hard workers. Glad the plot is their own.
This photo makes me happy.
These people and other Hmong like them have made a wonderful contribution to the markets in the Twin Cities, esp. St. Paul and suburbs. Their vegetables are wonderful and they are industrious, hard-working people. From what I understand the percentage of Hmong vendors at St. Paul's Farmer's Market is very high. We are proud of our Hmong workers and families!
I like how they smile.

Valery
Will they sell these at a farmer's market or are they for their own consumption?
Sounds like they made good choices on what to plant!
i like their happy disposition and what about those harvest? i hope they get good ones this year. ^0^
Handsome family!
I live right by there and have been wondering who those folks were and if they owned that land. It must be split up between a few folks then, because there's more than an acre & 1/2 there, right?
Good luck indeed, I hope they are organic!
Eau Claire: what a wonderful, wonderful name. I'm sure there's a reason for it, right? A river? A lake?
I hope they are happy now, settling after their long journey.
This is a wonderful image. Says so much about the family.
You are truly humanitarian, Leif. They look like a wonderful family to befriend. I didn't know that Eagan has a big population of Hmong people.
My kind of garden :D
