Bad news, good news

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church was almost burglarized on Saturday, July 18. Thanks to some "Good Samaritan" neighbors who heard broken glass and called 911, seven policemen arrived and caught the burglar! By the way, they worship on Sunday mornings and you are welcome to join them! (without a burglar's mask!)

I only visit churches if there's a photo opportunity. What did they try to steal?

Dear Leif,

Many thanks for your visit to my SHIPS & THE SEA and kind comment. Your blog is also very interesting. I must visit on a regular basis.
Best wishes from Lisbon, Portugal

Stupid burglars! Churches don't have any money! And most of what they do have isn't worth pawning...well, except for the sound equipment...but that's hard to haul away.

This guy must have been one of those Minnesota Morons I've heard about... ;-)

When there are hard times, people sometimes do terrible things. Not excusing it because I think that thievery is ugly. It seems doubly ugly when it's a place of worship.

In response to your question, yes, we are in Door County on Washington Island. The rest of the County is too touristy for us so the Island is just fine. A bit cool today. The former players in the photo are Keith Jackson and Mike Flanagan.

Habe ich das richtig verstanden...die Einbrecher haben in der Kirche eingebrochen?

Good for the neighbors! My church wasn't as lucky a couple of years ago. Vandals broke in and did some serious damage. We were heartbroken. Why do people do that?

I can't help but notice the extreme angle of the church building, very interesting. I'm glad the burglar was caught.
My church is called Calvary Chapel. :-)

Who would actually try to steal from a church???

Aparently someone who does not care about where they spent their eternity, I guess...

Nice church, unusual shape. I'm happy to know that there burglars are caught quickly. Not the same here, at all.

I am pleased to hear that the police caught the thief!
Otherwise I hope that Sunday has been nice and peaceful.

Burglary of any kind is bad enough, but to rob a church??

Love that banner — the 'thank you' made me chuckle.

Maybe it's the protective hands from above to alert the neighbours? :-)
