Dedicated service

Over 1,100 guests, city officials and police officers celebrated with the Eagan firefighters in dedicating the new "Eagan Fire Safety Center" on Yankee Doodle Road east of Lexington Avenue. The 38,000 sq. ft. facility, to be known as Station Two, combines two previous fire stations, improves response time and creates new training opportunities. It earned the first "Green Globes" designation in the US for a fire station. Fire Chief Michael Scott posed with their restored 1942 Chevrolet Fire Engine. The Minnesota State Fire Service Memorial Pipe Band played for the ceremony. An invocation, remarks, recognitions and a symbolic fire hose ribbon cutting highlighted the grand celebration followed by station tours, vehicle displays and refreshments.

Great coverage of the event, Leif.
It's getting very hot here and fires have already started, it's the same every summer, a nightmare!

We're lucky that there has been no fire threat in these parts; guess the rain has taken care of that. The ceremony looks like it was exceedingly well-done. My son as a little boy would have been beside himself with joy had he been at something like you described.

What a great informative post Leif, those big red fire trucks are very impressive. Do you have many fires in Eagan? As JM said fires are a nightmare, and we have so many in summer here too.

About the "green wall" :
The plants are on a sort of canvas covered by a network of pipes. This is similar to hydroponics.

I enjoyed all these pictures...my favorite is the one of the uniforms in a row from the back.

Looks like people are justifiably proud of their local firefighters.

Great reporting piece! And thanks for your ongoing community updates. I'm just a tad upset I wasn't invited Leif. hehe. No worries. Hope you enjoyed.

More than 1000 guests?
It must be quite a celebration for a city Eagan's size. Even in Bandung with a population of more than 2 millions, a fire station dedication would not be attended by that many guests.
I can see the pride the citizens have on their fire department service excellence. COngrats.

Ein schönes Wochenende für Euch!
Ich melde mich spätestens nächste Woche.

The people of Eagan must be proud of their firefighters to turn out in those high numbers. I can't explain why, but I love bagpipers . . . it must be my Scots Irish heritage. My favorite shot is the last one, shooting toward the podium with flags behind.
