In the bleak mid-winter....

My boots almost sank below the fresh snow line as I hiked up the hill on Sunday afternoon. The small St. John's Cemetery founded in 1888 overlooking Difley Avenue stood quietly and peacefully.

The virgin snow, shadows, and loneliness of the cemetery are very moving.

Cemeteries at any time of year are peaceful, restful spots. Were you there just to take photos or to make a visit?

Nice B+W shot. The title (from one of my favorite Christmas carols) is very appropriate. Now do a shot titled Once in Royal David's City . . . (More snow or sleet scheduled for the northeast on Saturday, so I'm going to show a shot from a few days ago when the skies were blue.)

Very peaceful and quiet. They are tucked in for 'the long winter's night'. MB

Wow, great shot!

A bit TOO peaceful for my tastes! LOL!

So beautiful. I love old cemeteries.

It's only the old cemeteries that have these vertical monuments. These days, grave markers usually have to be flat on the ground so that riding mowers can keep the place looking nice.

This only makes old cemeteries even cooler, more interesting.

Hello Leif

Just wanted to let you know that it was a beautiful photo.

It is nice to see that the Cemetery is visited by people. My family and myself currently maintain the Cemetery. We have done it as long as I can remember...
