A bridge over troubled water

We drove north out of Eagan on Highway 35E and parked overlooking the mighty Mississippi River. Strolling across the St. Paul bridge, we saw the severely flooding waters over the riverbanks past the trees which normally form the edge's border.
The St. Paul Pool & Yacht Club, opened on May 1, 1956, seems to be swimming in murky water! The flood waters are now at 19 feet above flood level. In 2001, the waters reached 23.4 feet, in 1997 up to 26 feet and back in 1965 hit the 26 feet mark, too.

la couleur de l'eau n'est pas encourageante, c'est a cause des inondations ;(

Murky is right! What a mess this is going to make.

Seems there has been lots of flooding this year, that water is almost the color of chocolate milk.

The club looks like it needs to learn how to sail too. I hope the waters don't go up much higher.

I guess this was not what the yacht club had in mind. Hope their building is not ruined.

This always happens in that area during flood season; homes were removed from the flood plain years ago, but the Pool&Yacht always sticks it out!!

It looks like very dramatic, but - that's nature! Does the Yacht Club have U-boats too? No kidding, I think it's no funny to be a victim of such a flood. The Yacht Club could have enough funds to remove the damages, but not private persons.

I grew up on the banks of the Mississippi River in Illinois and have seen many floods. It is always interesting to watch Mother Nature in action.

A little scary!

It is impressive to watch, and makes you feel so small!

This is one of the few kind of water I don't like much!

This does not look good! But, it's kind of an annual thing - maybe not so bad, usually, but all that snow you were showing us has to go somewhere!

Nice photos, Safe Leif!

Beautiful photography indeed. Hope that the water does return and won't do much harm.
Over here there are already nearly three weeks without a drop of rain. Seems indeed as summer is close, when it easily can become months - what a contrast.
A nice and safe Friday for you all.

High water for sure. I hope we will be spared flooding this year!!

The current is very swift in the Mississippi up here in the north metro. Interesting how the color of the river changes from the angle of view and light reflecting on it.

19 feet above flood level? That's a lot! But it made for a great photo (first shot)!

I love that first shot--flooding along the Mississippi is so horrible. We built sand-bag levees in '93 in St. Louis when I was a teenager. Ah, memories.

That is a bit worrying.
