Miss Minnesota - Brooke Kilgarriff

Miss Eagan, Brooke Kilgarriff, was crowned Miss Minnesota on June 20, 2009. On Saturday afternoon, many people gathered for a sendoff party for Brooke who will represent Minnesota in the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas to compete against 52 other contestants.

Miss America is one of the largest educational scholarship opportunities for women in the US. Contestants compete based on their beauty, poise, and style but also their talent and their social "platform."

Brooke's talent is singing and her platform is "Music - the building block of education." The Miss America national platform financially supports the Children's Miracle Network. Brooke has volunteered weekly all year at Gillette Hospital in St. Paul which is one of 170 hospitals nationwide which directly benefits from the Children's Miracle Network. Miss Minnesota has raised over $12,200 for that charity.

Cheer Miss Minnesota on to win the Miss America crown live on TV channel TLC on Saturday, January 30 at 7 PM central standard time! Our family wishes our beautiful and talented neighbor all the best in her quest!

Can we assume that is a photo from June? Otherwise, you must have very good heating there in freezing MN.

Good luck to Brooke on her quest. She's a beautiful lady and from your description she is also trying to do good. I'll root for her on January 30.

I took this photo of Brooke at Saturday's send-off party. She's even more beautiful in person! My other photos of her 5 other outfits aren't posted at her request so the other competitors don't see her dresses before the competition!

She looks lovely. Best wishes to her and to all the girls. May it be a wonderful experience for them all.

Congratulations with your 250 postings!! You have really showed us what it is like "over there". And I had not even heard about Eagan, before reading your blog! Thanks for sharing so many interesting things.

Good luck to Miss Eagan!!
Hope to see photos of her evening dresses later when you/they are allowed.

Good luck to Brooke!
I haven't watched a beauty pageant in years. But I remember liking the fact that your Miss America contest offered scholarships — so the young women who joined weren't just pretty but quite smart too.

Congratulations on your 250th post and congratulations to Eagan too for its 150th birthday!

Leider kann ich die Miss-Amerika-Wahlen am Fernsehen nicht mitverfolgen. Auf jeden Fall wünsche ich Miss Minnesota viel Glück.

Well, that's rather amazing that Miss Minneesota and Mr. Safe Leif would come from the same city...

But, we'll cheer her on anyway. It would be nice, though, if more Eaganites looked like her rather than like aging, balding stand-up comics. (I was talking about David Seinfeld! Gotcha!)

250 posts, huh? One for each day of your life. Good job!

Sorry, but I will have to support Miss Mississippi. :)

What a neat lady to have as a neighbor though!

GO BROOKE!. You will always be Miss America to those who know you. I am fortunate to be one of those who will be in Las Vegas in the audience on Jan 30 and yelling my lungs out for Brooke.

That's a very pretty young lady!

Good luck to her. I like the idea that pretty young women have to show they are interested in society and they volunteer. I dont think they "have to" do that in France, and that is why I don't like the Miss France thing.

Congratulations on your 250th post!

Eagan should be proud to have one of its daughters representing them not only as Miss Minnesota but in the Miss America contest!

Cheers!

Well, go Brooke; may she raise lots of funds. I met Miss Michigan last year, she was signing autographs in the grocery store. Or would have been, if anyone had paid her any attention...

Eagan is 150 years old, and your blog is 250 posts old! Congrats to both!
I am sure Brooke will win, as she was crowned on my birthday. It's a sign! We will try to watch, or at least to record the show, as it will be the middle of the night here. Keep on with the good work you do, girl! You too, Leif!

Beauty contests are not politically correct in Sweden these days, if it ever was. But good luck Brooke!
